Thesis Title: Interrupting Progress: Ruins, Rubble and Catastrophe in Walter Benjamin's History
This thesis presents sites of contemporary ruin in relation to Walter Benjamin's writings on history, memory and perception, via a spatial poetics that aims to reconsider both modern ruins and Benjamin’s preoccupation with debris, detritus and rubble, through a close consideration of the affective characteristics of sites of recent ruin.
